However, in a way, he’s right. Under Trump’s leadership, or what passes for it, international respect for the US is at record levels. Record lows, that is.

What the data say:

• A Pew Research Center global survey in 2025 finds that while about half of adults in the surveyed countries view the U.S. favorably, ratings have declined sharply in many places.
• In 15 of those countries, views of the U.S. have dropped by double digits compared to the prior year.
• A wider Pew report notes that respondents in 19 of 24 countries express little or no confidence in U.S. leadership on world affairs.
• An Ipsos poll (29 countries) shows belief that the U.S. would have a positive influence has dropped — across 26 of 29 countries surveyed.
• A recent survey by the Alliance of Democracies in 2025 showed global net perception of the United States fell from +22% to −5%, and that the U.S. now sits below China in global perceptions according to that metric.

That’s the overall international impression of the US. When you drill down to approval for the US president, specifically Trump, the numbers drop like a pigeon with heart failure. Mexico: 8%, Canada: 14%, Sweden: 15%, Turkey: 16%, Germany: 18%, Spain: 19%. Etc. etc. Maybe Trump saw his approvals in Israel and thought they were the mean.

But we don’t need polls to learn any of this. We can just look at the sudden crash of foreign tourism to the US in 2025, projected to be at least -7% in 2025 even as international travel in most other countries is up at least +5% (EU: +8%, Asia: +13%).

This is significant especially because Trump’s insane economic and political brain farts have driven down the value of the US dollar by 10% just since January. It’s the steepest decline of the dollar in over 50 years according to Morgan Stanley.

In normal times a weak dollar results in a flood of foreign tourism because the Euro, peso, Canadian dollar, etc is worth more against the dollar. But not in 2025. Our sinking popularity internationally is reflected by the decline in tourism to the US despite the economic attraction of a weak dollar. Trump has truly become the personification of the Ugly American.

NYC which is normally at the top of foreign travel destinations is projecting a $4 billion loss in tourism spending in 2025 and a $7B loss in indirect revenue. But NYC isn’t alone. In Las Vegas, which was especially popular with Canadians, tourism is down 12% on the Strip in 2025. Florida is also experiencing a triple whammy of skyrocketing insurance costs, declining real estate values and loss of foreign tourism, especially from Canadian “snow birds”, an estimated 40% of whom are instead taking their business to Mexico and Central America instead.

So why did I post all of these links? Because it’s something that Trump can’t do to support his idiotic lie about sudden American supremacy under his leadership. It’s just the opposite. He knows those real numbers. He even fires his own people for publishing them. He’s just counting on the smooth, squishy brains of his shrinking cult of dimwits not to fact check him.
