The only destructive protests happening in Los Angeles today are the ones that Trump’s twisted brain engineered to give him an excuse to send in the military and pretend that he was stopping an insurrection. To enable that he also broke federal law which prohibits the president from mobilizing the National Guard except in cases of actual insurrection and where local law enforcement is overwhelmed, in which case he’s also obliged to work with the state’s governor to federalize the troops.
None of this happened. Not only were these demonstrations not an insurrection, they were instead public protests, most of them peaceful, against the outrage of Trump deploying ICE to Los Angeles to abduct Angelinos off the streets with no due process. Many, perhaps most, of those targeted immigrants worked peacefully if not legally in Los Angeles, some of them all their lives. They were no threat to anyone. They were just scapegoats that Trump could use to leverage his vile misanthropy and to rile up his gullible cult. They certainly weren’t involved in “insurrection” — not like the deadly one instigated by the depraved loser of the 2020 presidential election.
When Gavin Newsom told the media that Trump had never so much as left a voicemail about his intentions, Trump went to the ever-obsequious FoxNews (and only FoxNews) with a screen shot of a supposed 16 minute cell call he’d had with Newsom. Problem is, one can clearly see on that screen shot that that call was two days before Trump made a decision to deploy the military. According to Newsom, that 16 minute call was Trump rambling disjointedly with no mention of Guard mobilization. In fact, Newson had already spoken to the press about that call and how Trump just prattled on about himself.
Trump has stacked lie on top of lie to create his own version of the Reichstag Fire which enabled Adolf Hitler to seize power in Germany. His deploying ICE to Los Angeles resulted in masked bands of poorly trained federal agents hitting the streets NOT to find, arrest and deport known criminals, as Trump claims, but to kidnap fruit stand operators, restaurant workers, gardeners and even lawfully-admitted immigrants outside immigration offices where they were showing up for their appointments. Yes, “abduct” because these were warrantless arrests. It’s kidnapping and false imprisonment.
Why would Trump do this? Putting aside the fact that he’s always been a racist POS going back to his first encounters with Richard Nixon’s DOJ in the 1970s over multiple violations of the Fair Housing Act at Trump Village and the tens of thousands of dollars he spent on full page ads in the NY Times, Newsday and other papers calling for the execution of the wrongfully-accused black teenagers known as the Central Park Five, his mental illness has progressed to Hero Syndrome. He’s like a deranged firefighter who starts a fire so he can publicly extinguish it and a medical caregiver slowly poisoning a patient so he can cure him. Trump cheats at everything for self-glorification, even golf.
This latest atrocity is consistent with Trump’s long history of creating a new outrage to stop the media from obsessing over his current failures, which in this case was the “mean girl” spat between Trump and Elon Musk. This story will in turn be displaced on front pages and broadcast crawlers by the next one when the manufactured glory of President Insurrection Act turns around and bites him on the ass. It didn’t escape anyone’s notice that after Musk escalated and revealed that Trump was in the Epstein files that this story suddenly happened, ending speculation about Musk’s next move and why Trump still refuses to release those Epstein docs.
